Balmoral Beach on Sydney’s lower north shore has always been one of my happy places.
It’s a harbour beach so there are no waves as such and the shallow waters are perfect for Pommy paddlers, like myself.
Soft yellow sand runs all around the bay, which is fringed with majestic Moreton Bay Fig trees.
There are lots of places to grab a coffee or a bite to eat as you stroll along the esplanade, but one of the most lovely would have to be The Boathouse.
We visited last week on a very ordinary Thursday morning and the place was heaving. It was first in best dressed for a table but we managed to snag a great spot.
The most wonderful plates of breakfast fare were being brought from the kitchen as well as fantastic coffee, fresh juices and huge fruit platters.
We watched the boats bobbing and indulged in a spot of people-watching too. Just don’t get too distracted… while we were gazing at the world going by a cheeky seagull swooped down and pinched half the bacon from my Mum’s plate! The sweet staff brought a little plate piled-high with bacon to replace it for us. Such great service.
Aside from the stellar food, the whole cafe is just a treat for the senses. It’s packed full of gorgeous flowers, boxes of fruit, as well as paddles, buoys and other boathouse paraphernalia. I just had to take a few snaps.
Ted was happy being fed grapes from our fruit platter but thoughts soon turned to digging. We indulged him with a post-breakfast sandcastle-building session and plenty of time playing on the little boat at the nearby playground. It was a pretty perfect morning.

I love how you put your story and photos together, intricately telling such a gentle and heartwarming story. Your photos were amazing to begin with, but now they’re getting even better! Looking forward to seeing how your blog is going to evolve from here 🙂 xx

Thank you so much, Yuko. I think these photos would have benefitted from some editing but I’d already messed about with them so much trying to get them into this post that I just pressed publish!
An imperfect post is better than no post, right?
Hope you’re having a great week xxx

I’m really glad I found your blog (via IG obviously!) but I’m sure I found you before. Have you changed domains? Seems we both have lived in a few places and have a healthy obsession with eating breakfast out and is your Ted a “Theodore” too?!
Bex says
Hi Clare! I’ve just changed over to WordPress from Blogger so wonder if I lost you along the way! Thanks so much for visiting 🙂
I was catching up on your lovely IG feed last night. I do love your photos!
You can’t beat a good breakfast, can you? Especially when someone else has made it! And our Ted is an Edward, which is actually causing no end of confusion in Australia where everyone expects him to be Theodore. No-one has ever heard of it as a nickname for Edward. Oh dear! Anyway, I love his full name and his nickname. Teds are the best!
Thanks again for stopping by! xxx

It looks just wonderful. You photos are gorgeous, by the way. I love all the attention to detail and little touches in the decor. I’d quite happily while away an afternoon there. x

If you ever venture over to Oz, Gillian, I will happily buy you a coffee down at Balmoral! We don’t go often enough; it’s pretty close and it’s such a great spot. It’s the first place I head to when I’m feeling homesick. Reminds me that Australia isn’t such a bad place to live – although it’s SO far away!!!
Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment xxxx
